Experience the full restoration of a dream car: Aston Martin DB4 Convertible

When the Aston Martin DB4 premiered at the 1958 London Motor Show, it seemed to take people’s breath away – such was the beauty of the English carmaker’s new sports car. The coupé was considered the perfect mix of British technology and Italian style, with Milan’s Carrozzeria Touring responsible for the design. In the fall of 1961, an open-roofed variant followed: the Aston Martin DB4 Convertible.

The specialists at the Emil Frey Classics workshop had the chance to take one on when, in the middle of May 2017, an Aston Martin DB4 Convertible arrived in Safenwil for a complete restoration. While the car looked nice enough due to a previous restoration, the colour and interior were not true to the original. The DB4 Convertible also had some damage that was harder to spot.

After the car’s complete disassembly, the car was sent to our body shop where the body and chassis were separated. There was significant rust, with some areas even rusted through. This is the first in a series of pieces to show you how our different specialists worked together to turn this convertible into a stunning beauty.

Stay tuned for the next part of our restoration journey – when our upholstery expert does wonders for the interior and our paint expert restores the DB4 to its original shade.
