DAB reception in a classic car? No problem.
At the end of 2024, analogue FM radio (VHF-FM) will be switched off in Switzerland and replaced by digital audio broadcasting (DAB). But what if your classic car was not configured for a DAB-compatible radio? We are pleased to offer you a solution for your “veteran” of the road.
One solution involves replacing the original radio with a DAB-compatible radio. While the exterior looks unchanged, the technology is upgraded with DAB+, a USB port, an aux-in (auxiliary-in) socket, Bluetooth audio streaming and a hands-free system for making calls.
A more affordable solution is possible if your car radio already features an aux-in socket for connection to an external DAB+ receiver. This allows you to control the volume and balance using the original car radio – and select the radio station with the new DAB+ receiver.
Good reception with the right DAB antenna
The antenna must also be adjusted. While DAB reception requires a different antenna than FM, the original antenna can be supplemented with an invisible built-in antenna splitter. This allows the existing rod antenna to receive both DAB+ and FM radio.
The iconic Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 DAB car radio
The legendary 1986 Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 radio has become a kind of cult object. Today’s reinterpretation of the popular 1-DIN car radio not only features the USPs of the 80s model, but also boasts new technologies and functions. The ease of use, simple design and crystal-clear reception always accounted for the model’s popularity. The new version adopts the original styling but adds modern Variocolor illumination to the buttons and display. The Blaupunkt Codem FM RDS tuner and DAB+ digital tuner also ensure superior reception for the new young-timer car radio.
New interfaces include two USB ports, an auxiliary connection and an SDHC memory card slot. And with audio streaming via Bluetooth and iPhone/iPad compatibility, the returning legend proves it is truly in tune with the times. All settings are permanently saved, even when the battery is disconnected. A DAB+ window antenna (required only if there is no existing FM antenna) is also included. The new Bremen SQR 46 DAB also has a low installation depth, making it ideal for young-timers with shorter installation shafts.
