DAB reception in a classic car? No problem.

From early 2025 until the end of 2026, radio stations in Switzerland will be gradually switching off analogue FM (ultra-short wave) radio in favour of Digital Audio Broadcasting Plus (DAB+) technology. As a result, reception will only be possible with a radio compatible with the new DAB+ standard. If your classic car or youngtimer is not yet equipped, we can help by offering a range of customised solutions.

Upgrade of original radio
This solution involves updating the original radio’s technical components while preserving its exterior for an authentic look and feel. On the inside, the upgraded radio boasts the latest DAB+ technology and high-quality components. Additional features include USB and auxiliary input (aux-in) connections, Bluetooth audio streaming and a hands-free system for making calls.

New classic-style DAB+ radio
Another option is the installation of a new DAB+ radio designed in the traditional classic car style. The radio evokes the nostalgia and charm of a bygone era but is made for the digital world. Apart from DAB+ technology, the radio includes USB and auxiliary input (aux-in) connections, a Bluetooth hands-free system, audio streaming and a smartphone interface.

DAB+ receiver
If your existing radio already has an aux-in connection, the most affordable solution is to connect it to an external DAB receiver. In this case, the original radio controls are used to adjust volume and balance levels, while radio station selection is made with the new receiver.

DAB+ antenna adaptation for optimal reception
Due to the differences in DAB+ and FM reception, adjustments must also be made to the aerial (antenna). The original structure can be supplemented with an invisible built-in splitter to enable DAB+ reception.

The iconic Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 DAB
The modern interpretation of the 1986 Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 combines the design and best features of the original 1-DIN car radio with the latest technology. This popular radio became a cult classic due to its ease of use, simple design and clear reception. The new model retains the original styling but adds modern Variocolor illumination to the buttons and display. The Blaupunkt Codem FM RDS tuner and DAB+ digital tuner also ensure superior reception. New features include two USB ports as well as an aux-in connection, SDHC memory card slot and Bluetooth audio streaming.

Converting to DAB+
When it comes to updating a classic car or youngtimer with DAB+ technology, a specialist is recommended. The conversion cost – which includes 1-3 hours of installation, depending on the car – can vary according to the vehicle type and model. We would be happy to advise you and provide a solution tailored to your needs.
